Renewable energy utility company Nippon Renewable Energy has officially broken ground on a 41MW solar project Yaita City, Tochigi prefecture, Japan.

The installation, called the NRE Yaita Solar Power Plant, is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2018 and will provide clean power to over 10,000 homes upon completion.

The project stands as one of three installations that NRE is currently developing in Tochigi prefecture.

Adam Ballin, NRE representative director, noted: “NRE is proud to partner with local stakeholders in Yaita City to create over 200 jobs, support the community and supply low-cost, clean solar energy. As a renewable energy leader in Japan, decreasing the country's reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear power, while at the same time increasing its energy independence, is of utmost importance to us."
