AC Energy to sell coal unit stake to boost renewables

21 May: AC Energy, a subsidiary of Philippines conglomerate Ayala Corp, is in talks to sell up to a 50% stake in its coal-fired energy unit, in order to use the funds raised to progress its renewables unit in Southeast Asia, according to Reuters.

AC Energy’s assets are split between 80% thermal and 20% renewable, but the objective is to reach a 50:50 mix by 2025.

The company expects to expand its overall energy capacity to more than 5GW by 2025 from 1.6GW currently.

GameChange Solar bags 305MW of tracker and racking orders in Florida

18 May: GameChange Solar has received orders for an additional 305MW of trackers and fixed tilt racking to be delivered in Florida this summer.

GameChange expects 1.8GW sales in 2018. Florida is seeing growth in demand for electricity and utilities are increasingly choosing solar energy.

Derick Botha, Sr VP of Business Development at GameChange Solar, stated: “It is encouraging to see that solar has now become the premier choice for utilities’ electricity generation. We are pleased that by continually reducing cost for our systems, we have been able to help the industry reach competitive pricing so it can progress forward. We will continue to aggressively drive cost reduction for the industry with our fixed tilt racking and trackers through innovation and increasingly larger scale manufacturing.”

T-Plus starts construction of 105MW of solar in Russia

17 May: T-Plus has started installation of modules at 105MW of solar spread across two projects being built in the Orenburg region of Russia.

The company claims that the solar park in Sorochinsk will become the largest such project in Russia.

At the moment, the construction of the pile field is being completed at both construction sites, and the tables for the PV modules are being assembled. 

Completion of the construction and commissioning of both stations in industrial operation is planned by early 2019.
