Oman’s state-owned oil and gas company Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) document for its first renewable energy project, a 100MW(AC) solar farm to be built in the southern region of the country.

Once tendered, the successful bidder will be responsible for the design and financing of the project to be delivered at Amin, approximately 210 km north west of Salalah.

Following an 18 month construction phase, PDO will become the sole off-taker under the project, with the successful bidder responsible for operation and maintenance of the site for the 23 year term of the power purchase agreement.

The project will be implemented by PDO as an independent power producer (IPP) under a framework similar to those already carried out in the Sultanate of Oman.

EOIs are to be received by PDO before the closing date of 31 January when the company will carry out a three month tender period, with the successful bidder being selected in June 2018.

The latest solar competition follows confirmation of a 500MW tender by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) earlier this month to be built in the north of the country.
