juwi solar has signed a contract to sell the electricity produced by its planned 19MW Queen Creek PV system in Arizona to Salt River Project (SRP). The 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) will begin once the installation is grid connected at the end of 2012.

This is the second PPA that SRP has signed in Arizona – it is also purchasing the output of Iberdrola Renewables’s 20MW Copper Crossing Solar plant. The Queen Creek installation will be fitted with 90,000 modules, spanning 140 acres, and provide electricity for around 3,300 SRP customers.

“Not only are we adding another renewable-energy resource to our sustainable portfolio to serve the needs of our customers, we are purchasing that energy from a solar plant located in Arizona – which also benefits our economy,” SRP general manager Mark Bonsall said.

“We are pleased to have signed a power purchase agreement with SRP and look forward to building and operating a project that supports SRP’s goals and provides benefits to the Town of Queen Creek and the State of Arizona,” juwi CEO Michael Martin said.
