UAE state-run renewables developer Masdar has signed an agreement with renewables developer Azerbaijan Green Energy Company (AGEC) to explore the development of new renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan.

Chinese module manufacturer JA Solar will supply 1GW of solar modules to UAE power company Masdar for two projects in Azerbaijan.

The Northwest Electric Power Design Institute of China Power Engineering Consulting Group (NWEPDI) has signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) for the 445MW Bilasuvar and 315MW Banka PV projects in Azerbaijan.

The financing covers two solar PV plants, which include the 445MW Bilasuvar PV plant and the 315MW Neftchala solar project.

The announcement was made by the country’s president, Ilham Aliyev, during the opening ceremony of the Conference of the Parties 29 (COP29) summit, held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The development includes the 445MW Bilasuvar solar PV project, the 315MW Neftchala solar PV project, in addition to a 240MW wind project.

Azerbaijan has announced its first solar auction, for a 100MW project in the eastern municipality of Gobustan.

UAE-owned renewable energy company Masdar's 308MWp Garadagh (Area 60) Solar PV project has commenced operation.
