Polysilicon prices have continued to decline slightly this week in China, while polysilicon companies initiated contract signings for moderate volumes.
Data from the Silicon Industry Branch published this week (8 May) indicated that Chinese PV wafer prices have been under downward pressure and witnessed a significant decline, with the maximum drop reaching 13.85%.
The average price of solar-grade polysilicon has dropped from the peak of RMB240,000-250,000/tonne (US$32,856-34,191) at the beginning of the year to RMB70,000-90,000/tonne.
On April 12, the Silicon Industry Branch announced the latest solar-grade polysilicon prices, which were between RMB190-200/kg on average, with the lowest price set at RMB180/kg (US$26.2/kg).
Bank of China Securities has issued a research report which stated that the PV industry chain price has stopped rising and may even drop in the future.
Silicon prices have marginally increased in the last week, according to the latest figures from the Silicon Industry Branch of China Nonferrous Metal Industry Association published on 15 February.
