TAIWAN ROUND-UP: Solar cell and module producer’s sales momentum continued through September

A basket of publicly-listed solar cell and module manufacturers on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) have continued to build sales momentum through September as demand increased for products from China, Europe and the US. 

Capacity utilisation rates have remained high for several months with high-efficiency products in strong demand with global PV module shipments expected to be in the range of 100GW and installations around 90GW in 2017.

Motech Industries

PV cell and module manufacturer Motech Industries has continued a strong recovery in sales since a low point in February when revenue was more than 50% below the prior year period. 

Motech’s recovery is also notable for being relatively linear and breaking a downward trend seen in the second-half of 2016. 

Revenue in September reached a high for the year of NT$ 2,184 million (US$71.92) million, compared to NT$ 2,096 million in the previous month. September revenue was 4.18% higher than August and up 59% from the prior year period. 

Preliminary unaudited third quarter 2017 revenue reached around NT$ 6,268 million, (US$206.4 million) compared to NT$ 5,596 million in the previous quarter.

Motech’s recovery is also notable for being relatively linear and breaking a downward trend seen in the second-half of 2016.

Gintech Energy

Merchant solar cell and module producer Gintech Energy continued a lumpy monthly revenue trend that it has experienced through the majority of the year. 

Gintech reported September 2017 revenue of NT$ 1,214 million (US$39.98 million), compared to NT$ 1,456 million in the previous month, which was a 29% increase over July.

Preliminary unaudited third quarter 2017 revenue reached around NT$ 3,800 million (US$125.15 million), compared to NT$ 3,179 million in the previous quarter. 

Gintech reported September 2017 revenue of NT$ 1,214 million (US$39.98 million), compared to NT$ 1,456 million in the previous month, which was a 29% increase over July.

Neo Solar Power

Taiwan-based merchant solar cell and module producer Neo Solar Power (NSP) reported a significant jump in revenue in September, due to increased demand and delayed shipments from the previous month there were impacted by a typhoon. 

NSP announced September 2017 revenue of NT$ 1,049 million (US$34.54 million), representing a month-on-month increase of 40.09%, which was a new year high for 2017. Year-to-date cumulative revenues reached NT$ 6,849 million, a 48.84% decrease from the prior year period.

Preliminary unaudited third quarter 2017 revenue reached around NT$ 2,467 million (US$81.25 million), up from around NT$ 2,217 million in the previous quarter. 

NSP announced September 2017 revenue of NT$ 1,049 million (US$34.54 million), representing a month-on-month increase of 40.09%.

Solartech Energy

Merchant solar cell producer Solartech Energy Corp’s monthly sales have improved overall since the start of 2017.

Solartech reported September 2017 revenue of NT$ 623 million (US$20.51 million), up 16.4% from the previous month and up 38% from the prior year period, supporting the view that demand trends have changed from 2016 when demand in China collapsed in the second half of the year.  Cumulative revenue in the first half of 2017 was over 50% below the same period in 2016, yet this has narrowed to the 40% range in the third quarter. 

Preliminary unaudited third quarter 2017 revenue reached around NT$1,774 million (US$58.42 million), compared to NT$ 1,800 million in the previous quarter. 

Solartech reported September 2017 revenue of NT$ 623 million (US$20.51 million), up 16.4% from the previous month.

TSEC Corporation

PV cell and module manufacturer TSEC Corporation sales had improved since April 2017, yet sales dropped back in September to February levels. 

TSEC reported sales in September 2017 of NT$ 530 million (US$17.45 million), compared to NT$ 590 million in August and down from NT$ 552 million in the prior year period.

Cumulative sales are only down around 16% in 2017 from 2016 levels. Preliminary unaudited third quarter 2017 revenue reached around NT$ 1,686 million (US$55.52 million), compared to NT$ 1,557 million in the previous quarter. 

TSEC Corporation sales had improved since April 2017, yet sales dropped back in September to February levels.

Tainergy Tech

Merchant solar cell producer Tainergy Tech Co reported its best sales figures for the year in September after gradual increases since March 2017.

Tainergy reported September sales of approximately NT$ 560 million (US$18.44 million), up from NT$ 541 million in the previous month. 

Preliminary unaudited third quarter 2017 revenue reached around NT$ 1,568 million (US$51.64 million), up from NT$ 1,302 million in the second quarter of 2017. 

Tainergy Tech Co reported its best sales figures for the year in September after gradual increases since March 2017.
