Trinasmart solar modules to be sold by US based Vivint Solar

US installer Vivint solar has purchased Trinasmart modules from Chinese manufacturer Trina Solar, the company confirmed. 

According to Jing Tian, head of global marketing for Trina Solar, Vivint Solar has begun carrying Trinasmart modules because of their “faster install times, enhanced monitoring capability and advanced fire-safety features”.

The Trinasmart technology has methods for monitoring and control at the module level, claims Vivint Solar which is “confident in the long-term value of monitoring system performance on the module level with Trinasmart”. They can also be monitored with a smart phone or PC.

No details on the size of the deal were released.

Trinasmart, and other technology from Trina Solar, however, may be subject to the tariffs imposed upon solar imports from China. The US government ruled to impose anti-subsidy taxes on modules imported from China, much like the Trinasmart. Vivint rival SolarCity purchased a number of shipments of tariff-free modules last year including from REC.
