Atlumin Energy has announced plans to open a manufacturing facility in Sunnyvale, California and intends to ship the first product from this new facility January 2010. This will include rotary sputtering targets for solar module manufacturers, to be followed by a full range of other products. With their California site, Atlumin will also provide chemicals, metals, fabricated products, specialized sputtering targets and reclaim services.
Atlumin's product offerings mostly include tellurium, indium, selenium, copper, gallium and cadmium. Indium and gallium, used in thin-film photovoltaic, are valued highly enough to support reclaim.
Vice President of Sales, David Preische said, "We are putting manufacturing roots in California to be local to many of our key thin-film customers manufacturing sites and development locations. Close proximity is a component of our strategy to be super-responsive. Our new facility is within 10 - 20 minutes of many local customers. This proximity dramatically compresses response time and development cycles, speed counts in solar. Atlumin is focused exclusively in renewable energy, the same focus as our customers. We understand!"
The new facility will also be equipped with the Atlumin Material Loop. This means that a closed loop system will link customer facilities to the Atlumin facility - compressing cycle time, minimizing waste, reducing loss and damaging the environment less. Atlumin's Sunnyvale facility will also work in product development, process engineering, application engineering and sales administration.
