Just over a month after Pacific Crest financial analyst, Mark Bachman revealed that First Solar had been selected for a massive extension to Sempra Generation’s 10MW solar power plant in Boulder City, Nevada, First Solar has announced the deal. First Solar is to design, engineer and construct a 48MW plant at the same location, with the project expected to be completed sometime in 2010, subject to Sempra obtaining a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a utility.
"We are pleased to have the opportunity to expand this 10MW project to 58MW--more than five times its original size, advancing our mission of providing clean, affordable solar electricity," said John Carrington, First Solar executive vice president of marketing and business development. "Sempra Generation's decision to use First Solar in expanding the El Dorado solar plant demonstrates our ability to provide a cost-effective energy solution for utility scale projects."
The Pacific Crest analyst had not included this order into First Solar’s existing revenue streams when first revealing the deal had been struck. The plant extension, once completed was claimed by First Solar to be the largest PV power plant in North America.
