  • Hoku Materials inks hydrochloric acid solar materials deal with BHS

    Hoku Materials said it has signed a supply agreement for hydrochloric acid with BHS Acquisitions. The deal is Hoku’s second trichlorosilane primary materials agreement in a week, following the announcement of its metallurgical-grade silicon contract with Polymet.

  • Jürg Fedier new CFO of Oerlikon Group

    Oerlikon Group has named Jürg Fedier as its new Chief Financial Officer effective 1 January 2009. Fedier joins Oerlikon from Ciba, Basel where he served as the company’s CFO since March of 2007.

  • Sharp’s new division targets European PV market

    With the new Sharp Energy Solution Europe Division, centered in Hamburg, Sharp Solar has tightened its grip on the solar business in Europe. The new structure aims to fortify the European PV market and to work on building future markets. Operating as a separate division of Sharp Electronics Europe since October 2008, The Sharp Energy Solution Europe (SESE) has been responsible for the pan-European solar business and will now be led under the new operating title by Hiroshi Sasaoka as President, with Peter Thiele as Executive VP.

  • Soquel High School starts construction on solar project

    It is being hailed the “county’s largest solar project” and is taking place at Soquel High School in Santa Cruz County, California. On the school’s online bulletin, they report that installation of the first 1,800 solar panels begun the week of 10 November 2008. The school expects construction to be done in December with hopes that the panels will begin generating energy by January of 2009.

  • Suntech Hawaii completes its largest solar project in Oahu, Hawaii

    Suntech Hawaii completed its largest PV system to date: a 223kW high-efficiency PV installation at D. Otani Produce in Kalihi, Hawaii. The Honolulu Advertiser reports that the project consists of 1,275 panels, which took seven weeks to install and is expected to produce enough energy for around 40 homes for one year.

  • ICP Solar to ship its Sunsei GreenMeter

    ICP Solar Technologies, Inc. is to begin shipping its new and patented Sunsei GreenMeter. The initial customer is an education products company that will establish the GreenMeter in 30 high schools throughout North America, which will make scientific training stations available for labs within a curriculum that focuses on renewable energy.

  • BioSolar to begin commercial production of its BioBacksheet

    BioSolar, Inc. has announced that it plans to begin commercial production of its BioBacksheet over the next few months and is currently getting ready for pre-production runs. The company’s announcement comes after a news reports states the Bio Solar has filed a comprehensive patent application to ensure BioSolar’s full protection on the BioBacksheet.

  • The North Face completes 1MW solar energy system

    The North Face, a supplier of outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, announced its completion of a 1MW solar electricity system at its West Coast distribution center in Visalia, California. The new system will power between 25 and 30 percent of the facility’s energy needs. It was designed, engineered and installed by Suntech Energy Solutions, while financed, owned and operated by Recurrent Energy. 100 percent of the electricity will be sold to The North Face under a power purchase agreement from Recurrent Energy.

  • SCHOTT Solar and Enerpoint enter into long-term contract for solar modules

    SCHOTT Solar and Enerpoint S.p.A. recently completed a contract, which calls for SCHOTT to deliver a gradually increasing supply of polycrystalline silicon modules for an unspecified amount of years, to Enerpoint with a total power output of 35MW. Enerpoint now becomes the official dealer for SCHOTT Solar modules in Italy.

  • ReneSola gains VP of manufacturing, but loses COO

    ReneSola announced two senior management changes in the course of reporting its quarterly financial results. Cheng-Hsien Yeh, resigned as chief operating officer effective Nov. 1 to pursue other interests, while Mingde Wang joined the company on Nov. 15 as its VP of manufacturing.
