Petra Solar taps Johan Enslin as new CTO

Johan Enslin, a 29-year veteran for the solar industry and the U.S., Europe and South Africa higher education system, has been named chief technology officer for Petra Solar. He has spent time in executive and consultant positions for private businesses and has been a professor in electrical and electronic engineering as well as conducting work at over 80 U.S., European, Asian and African power utilities, governments and industry projects. Enslin is credited with managing several renewable energy groups and projects for U.S. and international clients through system planning, power electronics and renewable energy integration.

Most Recently, Enslin was VP for Quanta Technology in sustainable energy and international business. He has also served as VP for Alpha Technologies, a company for which he was also general manager of their renewable energy division. Enslin served as VP of system planning at KEMA, a director of power electronics manufacturing companies and was a leader in the establishment of Smart Grid.

“Dr. Enslin’s position as Petra Solar’s chief technology officer will help take Petra Solar to the next level and help us continue to grow the solar electric business,” said Petra Solar President and CEO, Dr. Shihab Kuran. “We are developing the largest solar electric project under construction in the United States today and are engaged with utilities around the world. Dr. Enslin, a seasoned leader in transmission and distribution planning, power electronics, wind and solar renewable integration, will be a key contributor to Petra Solar’s continued success.”

Formerly, Enslin worked as a departmental chair at the Universities of Pretoria, Stellenbosch and a professor at Oregon State University. He is author and co-author of over 250 technical journals and conference papers in the IEEE and other organizations. He was served on IEEE and CIGRE working groups and standards committees as well as being the possessing 14 patents.
 
Enslin in a registered professional engineer, a fellow of the SAIEE and a senior member of the IEEE and a current adjunct professor at North Carolina’s State University Future Renewable Electric Energy Delivery and Management Center.
