First Solar’s executive ranks have thinned with the departure of John Carrington, the company’s EVP of global marketing and business development. In a Form 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the firm announced that effective Aug. 24, Carrington and the company had “mutually agreed” to end his employment.

The filing also states that Carrington “will receive certain compensation in accordance with the terms of his employment agreement,” and that he “entered into a noncompetition and nonsolicitation agreement and a confidentiality and intellectual property agreement upon his employment, both of which shall continue to apply in accordance with their terms.”

Carrington joined First Solar in May 2008 after serving for more than 15 years in various global marketing positions at General Electric. Often the face of the company, he was recently quoted in First’s Aug. 18 press release announcing its 550MW project development deal with Southern California Edison.

First Solar spokesperson Lisa Morse confirmed Carrington’s exit and said that the company will not be making any public announcements about his departure or the naming of his replacement at this time.

The position vacated by Carrington is not the only First Solar executive slot to be filled. The search continues for a successor to CEO Mike Ahearn, who will step into a more public policy-oriented role as executive chairman.
