Leading PV module tracking systems supplier DEGERenergie has come to the conclusion that CPV-based technologies, dependent on tracking the sun for correct yields, will remain an unprofitable business for the foreseeable future and as a result has discontinued the sale of its tracking products for the technology.

“The increased yield which can be achieved with concentrator technology bears no reasonable proportion to the additional expenditure and does not justify the high development effort,” commented Michael Heck, vice president of sales & marketing at DEGERenergie. “A key argument for CPV is the low space requirement, but especially in desert areas, where the benefits of CPV could be particularly remarkable, space is not really an issue.”
