Enel starts construction of largest PV plant in Latin America

Enel Green Power Brasil (EGPB), a subsidiary of Italy-based power giant Enel has started construction of a 292MW solar PV plant in Brazil.

The US$300 million Nova Olinda project is located in Ribeira do Piauí in Brazil’s north-eastern state of Piauí. It will cover an area of 690 hectares and will be able to generate more than 600GWh per year for the annual energy consumption needs of around 300,000 Brazilian households. Once completed, it will be the largest PV project in Latin America.

Enel already runs the country’s largest solar plant currently in operation, Fontes Solar (11MW), and is building Ituverava (254MW), which will be Brazil’s second largest solar project.
