German and US integrators at forefront of large-scale solar

German and US integrators are leading the way in developing utility-scale solar plants, according to research.

Figures published by industry analyst Wiki-Solar reveal that seven of the world’s top 11 developers of large-scale solar plants of 10MW or bigger are US or German-based “integrators” – companies that develop and install their own projects.

Three – First Solar, SunPower and Hanwha Q.Cells (formerly known as Q-Cells) – also manufacturer their own modules.

Top of Wiki-Solar list is First solar, which has 572MW of 10MW-plus installations across 10 sites.

SunEdison lies in second place, with 320MW across 12 sites.

Wiki-Solar’s Philip Wolfe said: “Solar power stations are the fastest-growing sector of the global electricity generation market and there are many companies jockeying for position.

“The 8,000MW of capacity on our database has been developed by about 120 different companies, but the top 25 account for half of it.”
