Tier-one PV manufacturer, JA Solar, has had its PV modules tested and pass the Class 4 Hail Test conducted by RETC in California.

JA Solar noted that the kinetic impact energy of this Class 4 Hail Test carried out by RETC was more than eight times higher than the energy registered in its previous hail test conducted by TUV Rheinland Lab in March, 2015 when 45-mm hailstones with a striking speed of 30.7 m/sec were used.

The Class 4 hail test conducted by RETC used solid ice balls frozen at -17 degrees Celsius with a diameter of 50.8mm to strike different locations of the glass surface at various impact velocities with the maximum reaching 76 meters per second (274 kilometers per hour), according to the company.

The Class 4 Hail Test is designed to demonstrate the ability of modules to withstand harsh weather conditions.
