Ardian Infrastructure has made its debut in the Latin American solar market in the US$31 million acquisition of four PV plants in Chile and Peru from Spanish EPC Solarpack.
The Latin American solar market is expected to double to 2.3GW in 2016, up from 1.3GW last year, but it remains in its early stages having been held back by key markets in Brazil and Mexico, according to the latest figures from analyst firm GTM Research.
The Latin America region saw 181MW of utility-scale solar PV come online in Q3 2015, down 50% from the historic 363MW of installations in Q2, but still helping the market's ability to strengthen growth and move towards maturity in 2016, according to GTM Research’s ‘Latin America Q3 Playbook’.
