Abengoa, which entered insolvency proceedings last November, has been granted bankruptcy protection under Chapter 15 over the objections of a group of insurance companies who claimed the Spanish renewables company’s talks to restructure billions in debt was unfair to US creditors.
Spanish renewables giant Abengoa, which entered insolvency proceedings last November, has sold its 20% share in the 100MW Shams-1 concentrated solar power (CSP) plant in the United Arab Emirates to Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar.
Spain-based renewables firm Abengoa began insolvency proceedings yesterday after Gonvarri, an arm of industrial group Gestamp, decided against a plan to invest around EUR350 million (US$371 million) into the company.
