
India-based integrated utility and solar developer Essel Infraprojects has commissioned a 50MW solar project in Jalaun in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The plant is located over 101 hectares of land at the villages of Kuhana and Shajahanpur and is connected to 132kV Sarsela-Kalpi substations. It will power roughly 25,000 households in the state. The plant was inaugurated by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav under the Uttar Pradesh Solar Power Policy 2013 to enhance renewable energy progress in the state.

A consortium between Essel Infra and China-based PV material manufacturer Golden Concord Holdings (GCL) recently signed a memorandum of Understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government to invest US$2 billion in developing 5GW of module manufacturing capacity by 2020 in the Indian state.
Indian conglomerate Adani Group and solar developer Azure Power were also both recently awarded 50MW of capacity with winning bids of INR 4.78/kWh (US$0.07) in a 100MW solar auction in Uttar Pradesh.
