The German Federal Network Agency, Bundesnetzagentur, has awarded 288MW of rooftop solar in the third auction of 2026.
Unlike the previous two held earlier in the year, bids submitted were higher than the capacity sought – 296MW – with a total of 347MW across 177 bids. The first round of the year, which awarded only 155MW in April, had a bid volume of 177MW despite seeking 283MW of capacity. The second round, held in June 2026, received a bid volume of 238MW.

The prices of the successful bids in the pay-as-bid auction ranged from €0.085/kWh (US$0.0951/kWh) to €0.1/kWh. The highest bid of €0.1/kWh reached the price ceiling for the rooftop solar auctions, which was changed in December 2025. The volume-weighted average award price was €0.0967/kWh, which was the same level as that in the previous round €0.0972/kWh.
The western federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia has had the most volume awarded with 66MW across 38 winning bids, followed by Hesse with 30MW, 11 winning bids and Brandenburg with 28MW and 14 winning bids.
“There has been a clear increase in the volume of bids submitted for roof-mounted solar installations compared with the previous round. The auction volume was more or less covered,” said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur.
The varying interest in Germany’s rooftop solar auctions in 2026 does not match its ground-mounted counterpart, which has been oversubscribed since 2023. However, the latest ground-mounted auction registered a notable decrease from previous auctions, with 3.1GW of bids submitted for 2.1GW of capacity awarded in July 2026, down from 4.6GW of bids in the other ground-mounted tender held this year.
