Neo Solar Power

Taiwan-based merchant solar cell and module producer Neo Solar Power (NSP) had experienced the strongest rebound in monthly revenue (71%) in May and backed that up with a further 9.22% growth in June.

NSP reported June 2017 revenue of NT$ 905 million (US$29.8 million), compared to revenue of NT$829 million (US$27.3 million) in the previous month.

NSP said that its June revenue was mainly due to increased demand from Europe, US, Japan and China.

Specifically, Suniva and SolarWorld America’s Section 201 petition was said to have led to some rush orders.

At the half year point, NSP sales reached NT$ 4,382 million (US$144.3 million) as of June 30th, 2017, a 57.90% decrease from the prior year period.

The company is still in a restructuring and transitional phase, recently officially opening a new 200MW high-efficiency module assembly plant in Taiwan, while selling an idled facility to raise cash. NSP is also putting more emphasis on its downstream PV project business in South East Asia and hopes to capitalise on the expected growth of Taiwan’s domestic solar market.

Gintech Energy

Merchant solar cell and module producer Gintech Energy had been reporting lumpy monthly revenue figures during the year, yet a strong recovery in May was also backed-up with further growth in June.

Gintech reported June 2017 sales of NT$ 1,154 million (US$38 million), compared to US$36.4 million in May, a 6.4% increase from a 15.2% increase in May.

Cumulative sales for the first six months of 2017 reached NT$ 6,597 million (US$217.2 million), down 30.6% from the prior year period.

Gintech is benefiting from its manufacturing plant in Thailand, which accounts for around 750MW of annual nameplate capacity, enabling it to supply module manufacturers shipping to Europe and the US, without paying anti-dumping duties.
