Abu Dhabi has broken ground on what will be the world’s largest independent solar plant, the deputy chairman of the country’s Executive Council has said.

EDF Group, via its subsidiary EDF Energies Nouvelles, announced Wednesday that it has joined the Masdar-led consortium responsible for the development of the 800MW third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in the United Arab Emirates.

The MENA region has a solar PV pipeline of 4,050MW for this year, according to a new report by the Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA).
