SB Energy, a joint venture between Japanese tech firm Softbank, Bharti Enterprises and Foxconn Technology Group, has started operations at a 455MW solar project in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, according to a release from the module supplier Trina Solar.

SMSL member Trina Solar said this is largest order it has received in the south Asian country to date. It delivered its TALLMAX 72-cell polycrystalline panels for the plant, which was actually commissioned on 29 March this year.

Jifan Gao, chairman and CEO of Trina Solar said: “We are proud to be the trusted partner of SB Energy for its first large-scale solar project in Andhra Pradesh.”

In May, SB Energy won 300MW of solar at a tariff of INR2.45/kWh in Rajasthan, just short of Acme’s INR2.44/kWh bid, which was the lowest ever in India. In the same week, SB Energy also won another 100MW in the same state at extremely low prices.

The industry awaits confirmation of reports that Indian solar manufacturers have filed an anti-dumping petition against equipment coming from China, Taiwan and Malaysia. Such a case could impact project prices.
