Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has invited research proposals related to renewable energy and its integration, as well as firm power and energy efficiency.

The invitation, jointly issued by the Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ), seeks to attract researchers that can investigate adding renewables to the national grid as well as existing energy systems. It is also interested in energy storage systems to be combined with solar, wind and biogas, alongside renewable energy applications in agriculture and industry.

Micro-grids involving renewables and energy storage were also listed as chances to improve reliability in energy generation.

The research proposals are to address energy issues highlighted in the Transitional Stabilization Program (TSP), National Energy Policy, Vision 2030 and the National Research Priorities.

The funding is open, on a competitive basis, to Zimbabwean researchers in engineering, physical and social sciences and any other academic disciplines, at local Academic Institutions, research institutions or government research departments. Researchers from the Private Sector and Non-profit organizations affiliated to a Zimbabwean approved public institute are also encouraged to apply.

Results and funding decisions will be announced to applicants by 17 July 2019 and projects should commence by 1 September 2019.

The deadline for submissions is 15 May.

According to local newspaper The Daily, ZERA has also approved a 10MW solar PV project this week by New Glovers Solar in Munyati in Midlands Province.
