Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned a 50MW Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) solar plant at the 2GW Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka.

The project was won by the company in 2016 under the National Solar Mission Phase-II Batch-II Tranche-I. Projects won under the DCR are mandated to use locally sourced modules.

The project was built over 102 hectares and a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) has been signed with India’s largest utilty, NTPC, at a tariff of INR4.84/kWh (US$0.076), which was the lowest ever DCR tariff at the time of the auction.

TPREL's total installed operating capacity now stands at 1,664MW.

Rahul Shah, CEO, TPREL, said: “The commissioning of the 50MW solar plant in Karnataka fortifies our position of being the largest renewable energy company in the country, with a strong presence in solar power generation. We prefer development opportunities in solar parks as land and evacuation are provided, and we can focus on the project. We are extremely proud of this development and we continue to seek potential areas across India and in select international markets through organic and inorganic opportunities.”

TPREL recently commissioned a 25MW solar plant in Charanka, Gujarat Solar Park, Gujarat, a 30MW solar plant in Palaswade in Maharashtra and a 100MW solar plant also at Pavagada Solar park in Karnataka.
